first, welcome aboard

what motor/drive combo?
what model Carver?
what RPM are you at?
what is your weight?
what speed are you at?

Generally, you drop down in number to gain RPM (lower pitch)

However the C-series props are stainless, so that is pricey to be trial and error. maybe get a set of B3's

However just guessing until we know what you have

for example if you have a late 80's Montego with a 271C, it would have been fitted with B3's (or updgraded to C3's)

Thank You,
the engine is a 2008 5.7 with fuel injection
the drive is 280
rpm is 3200 water tank full and 2 people
gets to 25mph
1988 Montego 2557
B3s are aluminum? My C4 sst set is presently being repaired, the boat is new to me and I installed a new/or rebuilt set of aluminums that came with the boat but they are not marked so I dont really know what I have on as far as pitch, I should have the sst set back on Thursday. I cant seem to find what the boat would have come with originally.

on the 2557 Montego, original engine was an AQ271C (275hp) with a DP290 and it came with B3's. you are over-prop'd with the C4's and someone swapped your drive from the 290 to the 280 (I have known a few Montego owners as well as a bunch of the guys at Carver in the late 80's)

VP does not put pitch on their DP props. they go off of series.

Thanks Scott, I’ll work a deal with the prop repair shop and bring home a b3 set, are these available as stainless steel? Ivan

Defo a 280 ? C4’s act very similar to a set of b5’s. I’d say you’ve too much prop on her. If you have a 280…that would be strange, I’d think

C series is stainless, B series is aluminum. Post a pic of the drive, or google VP 280 vs VP 290

WOT is 3200 rpm? Is dropping down from 4's to 3's really going to change rpms enuff? I would think some power is missing.

Ok so to get higher rpm which prop should I start with

Differently in what way?
Did you ever resolve your low RPM issue? I have a new to me 268 Albemarle with a 5.7 GXI. RPMs won't go over 3600 rpm. 25mph. I feel like the engine has a lot more to give. I am running C4s. Would appreciate your wisdom...
