Bypassing VRO on 1988 Ev 90 V4

I've been told the VRO pump on my motor is bad and needs to be replaced. I've searched the forums for VRO info and it seems that I can plug the line and remove the alarm wired and continue as long as I pre-mix my oil and fuel.

Am I missing something here or is it really that simple? The mechanic said he ran the motor by hooking up a premixed tank in the shop.

Thanks for the welcome and the link. I had found the article and read it earlier, lot's of good info there. I think I'm going to try the plug and disconnect method and see how it goes. Since the marina mechanic told me it ran fine when he hooked it to a premixed tank I'm assuming the pump side is working okay.

Now on to do the lower unit seals and waterpump.

I believe that evinrude makes a part to bypass the vro pump. I am not sure what the part # is but I know it exists.

if i'm not mistaking, it's just the fuel pump without the oil side. i have the 1988 88 spl, which i the same engine without VRO.

yes it really is that easy. I have been running my 100HP for the last year with the oil side disconnected.
Just make sure all your lines and clamps are in good shape.

Welcome!!

I'd sure ask the mechanic why he thinks the pump is bad just on the oil side.
