I noticed some oil in the bileg, turns out to be this black diaphram looking thing tied ino the inlet hose. I am assuming a power steering cooler. So I bypassed it. There is one hose coming from the gimbal housing to this "cooler" and another hose from the cooler to the water pump. I would like to remove the cooler all together. Is there a single hose available from the gimbal houseing to the water pump? If so, what is the P/N?

If you have power steering, you need that cooler.

My resivour is bolted to a 3/8" thick plate which is bolted to the head. There is little or nothing that little cooler would do to prevent the fluid from being the temp it wants to be when sitting in the resivour anyway. Thanks for the concern but I will not be using the cooler. I only asked if there was a continous molded hose available. If not I will probably just get a piece of tubing to put in there. No biggie.

There was never a Mercruiser GM V8 engine available without a power steering system, even back to 1977, so there is no hose available... Best to just put a length of stainless steel (or Copper) tube in there...

Don, Bond-o... If he wants to cook the oil.... who are we to stop him.... :D....

Chris...

And some people just have to wee on the electric fence themselves...

Have a nice day....

i put 16in hours on it this weekend. Most of which was at full throttle. I just hosed her down and before i placed the cover on i checked the fluid and it looks and smells new. No problems visable with the pump either. So it seems fine.
