Bypassing interrupt switch

When i rebuilt my boat I bypassed the interrupt switches on the advice of a high performance marine mechanic whom I trust. His opinion was that they were nothing but trouble and since my engines were new and had a low idle that I didn't need them anyway.

I'd like to hear everybody's thoughts on the subject. I ran last year without them and really didn't have much of a problem shifting but now I am thinking I'll hook them up and maybe shift even better.

Re: Bypassing interrupt switch

Had a problem with my interupter switch thought I would remove the thing, but, I work with power transmittion stuff and the logic for the switch to release the load on the gear mesh is sound. With load engaged it is possible to chip the teeth while moving in and out of gear. The switch is easy to replace if broke and adjustment is simple so I figure why not have it as the engineers planed.

If this is a Mercrusier Id hook it back up. Your gears in the lower will last alot longer! Shift switches are for taking it out of gear NOT putting it in gear!
