Bypassing Emergency Stop Switches

This past Sat. we were headed out by the jetties at Winyah Bay.The motor suddenly stopped seemingly for no reason. We immediatly threw out the anchor as we were only about 30-40 yards from the rocks. After some quick looking we found that the clip that holds the E-Stop switch out had spread allowing it to break or make the circuit. The switch has only two wires. My question is can I wire in a bypass switch parallel to the emergency switch? The motor is a 2009 Suzuki DF 140.Thanks.

paralleling it will not work,
Fix it right , it is a safety switch and needs to be fixed properly

There's nothing wrong with the switch,it's the plastic clip that holds the switch out.I had another one and we used it.

Sure. I wish you had a clear understanding of how the switch works, tho.

When the clip is pulled, the "kill wire" that is present both at the emergency switch and the key switch is shorted to ground.
So, the suggestion to wire in a bypass.....well that would have to be a switch in line with the kill wire, that is always ON.
Then when you wanted to bypass and effectively never be able to turn the motor off, well, you would flip the switch which would open up the "kill wire" thereby preventing ANY KIND of engine stopping effect.

I am not sure of the color of the "kill wire" on a Suzuki/Johnson 140, but the factory manual will tell you.

To summarize....identify the "kill wire" by color, cut it, wire in a switch that is always closed (ON), and bypass all "kill" function by opening the switch. Sound safe?
