I have just purchased a 1994-60 hp merc. My back yard mechanic is telling me there has been alot of problems with the oil injector on these motors and that I should by pass it an just add oil to the fuel. Any ideas? Thanks.

One thing is for sure, you will never starve your engine for oil if you premix. I hate oil injection, it's just a timebomb waiting to go off and destroy your motor. Some people love oil injection, and I can certianly see where it's better for the environment, but I still hate it.

Do it. Just make sure you can get into the routine to mix and don't forget. I put a label right below my fuel fill that reminds not only me but if a loved one uses the boat to mix and @ what ratio. I feel so much better now when boating. Just my opinion.
