buzzer went off

Took the boat out today after an hour or so the buzzer went off and the engine started to bog down. I shut it off quickly and checked the temp. It was fine (good water flow) cranked her up and the buzzer was still going. When I went over 3000 RPMs it started to bog down. (idle was fine) Then my buddy noticed that the prime bulb had collapsed. He played with the prime bulb and got the buzzer to go off and the RPMs to pick up to normal. This happened three times but on the last time we got the buzzer to go off but it was still bogging down if tried to go over 3000 RPMs (coasted home below 3000 RPM). Could this be a fuel or electrical problem? Sounds to me like not enough fuel, could the pump be going bad and causing this?

Evinrude 1991 200hp

Thanks…Al

Don't know what type motor you have but if you'er sure it's not overheating (causing the pistons to stick, thus the lower rpms)then my best guess is an obstruction in the fuel system, be it something in the float bowl getting sucked up at higher rpms or in the tank itself. Fuel pump sounds like its working, sucking the bulb flat...

dmessy, you have a good point there about the pump.

I'm going take a look today, I'm check for proper venting and other things. Perhaps it’s the water separator/filter it’s about a year old maybe it's cloged.

Thanks guys

Fuel restriction sensor sounding alarm, replace filter, check anti-siphon valve.

It's inside the niple at the tank were the fuel line connects to engine. There is a bearing & spring inside that allow the fuel to get out but not in. I don't think is my problem becaue I removed the spring & bearing from the niple last year. Dirt may gets inside and allow the spring to jam.

hi guys....
if the ball is collapsing, it only can mean 2 things > restriction in fuel system between tank and ball, or bad ball....

> As per 'mrnobody' check if ball unflattens if filler cap removed (tank building vacuum from bad venting)

> A plugged pickup tube in tank (tee in vacuum gauge right at tank connection > if vacuum evident > problem in tank

> kinked or restricted hose from tank to ball

> plugged anti-syphon valve (as per "canton")

> any filtration system between tank and ball (as per "canton")

> and last but not least....defective ball > bad inlet valve in ball or ball too soft.

thats my .01 cent worth....
good luck!!
