Hi guys,
Not strictly RIB related. I am going to inspect a boat next week, which I intend to buy. There is a Volvo KAD 32 diesel (Super and Turbo - 170HP - 2001) installed.

Is there anything in particular I should be looking out for? Any known faults with the engine?

The supercharger has been replaced last year. There's load of receipt's for all the service history so I presume it was well taken care of.

Any advise/tips on things to watch out for much appreciated!

No expertise on this at all,but look over those receipts and make sure they are for maintenance, not repeat failures and faults.

The worst thing that can happen to those engins is water in the fuel. IF it gets into the injection pump. and injectors, start throwing away $1000 bills.
Also use Volvo engine fuel filters.
Second biggest problem is leaky injectors. Get them tested every 600 hrs of running or 3rd year. Lack of use is worse than too much use.
A squirting injectors will wash the oil off the cylinder and kill the rings and compression in a season.
Keep up with oil changes, fuel filter changes, air filter changes and follow the maintenance instructions and they are great engines.
They are also wet sleeved, so if you have to rebuild it, you can get liners (cylinders) pistons, ring and seals for only $700 each..... and you only need 4.
That engine is also no longer made by Volvo, But parts are not going to be a problem in the forseeable future.
