Re: BUYING NEW SUZ 225 EFI, HELP!!!!!!

SUZUKI,I AM A SUZUKI DEALER (ALSO YAMAHA) THE 225 SUZUKI EFI HAS BEEN OUT FOR A NUMBER OF YEARS NOW AND HAS PROVEN TO BE A VERY RELIABLE ENGINE AND AN OUTSTANDING PERFORMER.WE RARELY EVER SEE ONE BACK FOR ANYTHING OTHER THAN ROUTINE MAINTENANCE.AND THE FEW THAT WE DO SEE BACK FOR ANYTHING ELSE ARE USUALLY SMALL PROBLEMS THAT ARE QUICKLY AND EASILY FIXED. WE HAVE SEVERAL CUSTOMERS THAT HAVE BEEN RUNNING THIS ENGINE ON COMMERCIAL VESSELS AND THEY SAY THEY WILL NEVER RUN ANYTHING ELSE. LIKE MOST ENGINES ROUTINE MAINTENANCE IS THE KEY TO THE LIFE OF THE ENGINE AND IF MAINTAINED PROPERLY THIS MOTOR WILL GIVE YOU YEARS OF TROUBLE FREE SERVICE. IF YOU NEED ANY FURTHER ASSISTANCE FEEL FREE TO GIVE ME A CALL . 850-229-6330, AND ASK FOR PHILLIP. I WILL BE IN THE OFFICE TOMORROW UNTIL ABOUT 1:00 P.M. EASTERN TIME .

Suzuki,

I have owned one Suzuki-a DT-140. I agree with Cap'n Black. The 140 was bulletproof. It was overbuilt, heavy and a bit thirsty, but it was tough.

weren't the people with suzuki problems talking about the smaller 4 strokes?

As I understand it, if you have a good Suzuki dealer in your area for support/supplies then you are laughing..

Suzuki have been around for many many years, (I even used to race their motocross bikes)

Good stuff..

rgds

Frank

Re: BUYING NEW SUZ 225 EFI, HELP!!!!!!

Gentlemen, My problem is not the Suzuki engine, its what happened to me when my camshaft failed on my new 2001 DF70. Prior to this failure, I was just like the rest of you proud owners(preaching to whoever would listen). They are a very fine running engine, the best I have ever owned.
Good starting, idles all day, no stink(old 2 strokes), good on gas, great power both on lower end and WOT. I don't want to come across as a whiner or complainer, but when my camshaft failed, I was without a boat and motor for 3 months, that's a half of a season in Minnesota. Motor problem was incorrectly diagnosed at first. Waited 5 weeks for an oil sending unit which did not fix the problem. Then nearly 2 months to get the camshaft and get it installed.
Suzuki will not tell me why this failure happened or why they installed a different part number camshaft. I've written them three letters. Their response was the fact that it was repaired at an authorized Suzuki Dealer and by and authorized Suzuki Tech. and the fact that I ran it for 1 hour after the repair should be enough to satisfy my questions. I hope there are only 4 of us out there with a camshaft failure on the DF60/70 4 stroke. My condensed story.

Re: BUYING NEW SUZ 225 EFI, HELP!!!!!!

I have a 2000 225 Suzuki and have a little over 200 hrs on it. It has been maintained to schedule. I guess I am one of those few that have had problems. I have had slow idle problems with the engine cutting out from about 100 to 200 hrs. 3 different certified Suzuki dealers work on it and I think the last one fixed it finding the fuel pump had worked loose with one screw gone. I had mentioned that my fuel flow meter showed a spike of 3.5 tp 4.5 gph each time the engine cut out. Normal ff readind at idle are .8 to 1.2. The 2nd dealer discounted that but I told him that ff meter is extreamly accurate and 100% of the times the engine coughed there was a spike on the ff meter. Did not have the ff meter when the 1st dealer wowrked on it and he was the selling dealer. The 3rd Suzuki guy pick up on this ff data and found the fuel pump problem. The another thing on these engines is the TPs sensor has a very tight voltage spec for idle control like 5.2 +/- .01. Mine has been set 2 times so far and the last time it was .6 volts off. We will see what it is 100 hrs from now. The breakin procedure is very agressive on these Suzukis. My book called for 2x oil for only 5 hrs. And the total breaking period of desinated rpm range of 5 hrs also. Hours 4 thru 5 should be run at 4500 MIN to a max 5500 on 30 second rips. I could not belive this but was convinced buy the dealer that these engine were so good thats all they need. SO I ran the break in to spec except the 1st hr that he ran it. I was still on 2x oil at 7.5 hrs when the middle starboard piston came apart. WOW, they put a new powerhead, not dressed mind you within 10 days and has ran fine except for the idle thing. But that could of been form the dressing of the new powerhead. I had my dealer put the 1st 17 hrs on the new powerhead since there was a ? on why it failed and like I said I have over 200 on it now. Runs like a top at speed and hope now the idle thing is cured. Only fished it one day since the fule pump was fixed and seem to be ok. I get good MPG for a 23' deep v and hard top. 2.8 to 3.0 mpg at 3800 to 4600 rpms With 42 to 4400 being best. I think it has potinial to be a long lasting good engine but think the breaking needs to be looked at along with hope you don't get one with a bad piston to start with. To date the only word from my dealer on the problem from Suzuki was it was a "cold siezure". Only problem is engine wasn't cold. I talked to him a couple time about this a while age and am not going to beg him anymore to have Suzuki call me. Since he did not dianose the "cold seiziure" he is just the middle man and you can't talk to the man that will make the desision on your repair. Maybe Phillip at capt blacks marine can explain the whole warrenty/dealer/rep thing on a major warrenty claim. My only past experince over the last 25 years with company reps was on a 1976 merc 115, replaced in 1978 with a ner motor, whole thing, no charge for a intermitant problem 2 dealers could not fix. Then is 1993 I had a 1990 200 yamaha lock up at 516 hrs, demend to be a factory defect with a line bore problem and powerhead was replaced, no charge, 10 months out of warrenty. Both times I requested the MFG rep call me and each time they did in a timely matter to assure me they will take care of the problem. I guess thats the too high a bench mark to set for Suzuki.

Hawkeye
I like a lot of people believe Suzuki is a great product. The missing link is their customer care program.

When you hear stories like this, it's disappointing. I'm getting fixed to buy a DF140, but holding off until the reliability reports are in.

Everybody has problems, it's how you address them, that really builds brand loyalty.
