I've got a 19' Chaparral but thought I'd like to get a ski too. I'm studying the various forums and learning what I can about them. So far I'm considering these two.

1995 Seadoo GTX. with trailer (expired registration) $1200.00. Just serviced and new shut off valve and fuse installed. Owned by a friend's mother but she lives 600 miles away. Owned last 7 years, ridden twice a year while on vacation always winterized and serviced in spring prior to vacation. Last year this same friend and I went from NC to NY to get the Chaparral so another road trip, while not desirable, is a possibility but will add about $300.00 for fuel alone and trailer may need tires for long trip.

1996 Polaris SLT780 with trailer asking $1325.00 but would probably take between 12-13. 45 minute drive, can check compression, has all paperwork, run in fresh and salt but always flushed, has owner's and repair manuals. MFD (Multi function display) is the only non working item on this vessel.

The difference is distance aside what do you think about these skis? It will be adult ridden on lake with 1-2 riders.

I would go with the sea-doo. Polaris doesn't make PWC's anymore which means they don't have parts readily available anymore. I have had 2 of those 780's and while they are really fast, they have their drawbacks. They #3 cylinder WILL burn up if you don't upgrade the fuel pump. And if it burns up it will most likely take the crank bearing with it. The Gtx is a good all around pwc, and there are endless accessories and parts available. And if something goes south you only have 2 pistons to buy instead of 3.

Well I bought the Polaris for $1050. While they're no longer made I found all the parts and info I could ever need, that and the fact that another 1000+ mile round trip to NY just didn't seem that appealing.

I picked it up last Tuesday. I took it to the lake yesterday and DAYUUM these things are a blast!! Having never ridden one I got the feel of it in about 10 minutes....I rolled it over after about 11 minutes :D Rolling it over kinda freaked me out but my buddy said I was LMAO when I surfaced. I knew I had to roll it back over in a clockwise direction but there isn't much leverage in 20 feet of water. At first I tried rolling it over from the rear then It came to me....get on one side and reach up and over the hull and grab the intake grate. I climbed back up on it, fired right up, and off I went.

Today I took the wife and some friends out cruising on the boat...tomorrow I'm back out on the ski to make some runs with GPS.

I forgot to add that it has upgraded oil pump (octagon vs. round) and 3 outlet fuel pump, new battery, and new seals and bearings in the drive line.
