Buying a used stator, bad idea ?

Just wondering if paying $100 for a used stator <1987 Evinrude 225hp> is a giant roll of the dice. A new unit is going to cost 300 bucks plus shipping.

Do used outboard parts dealers test electrical parts, or just pull them and sell them from blown powerheads etc ?

Cash strapped here, but looking for a reputable business that I can feel comfotable dealing with.

Will graciously look at pro's and cons.

Thanks

Is the $300 price for an OEM stator or an aftermarket stator?

Re: Buying a used stator, bad idea ?

Thanks for the help. I found one locally, but the dealer wanted $200 for a used one with no warranty of any kind, the dealer also quoted me $400 for a new one.

After some surfing type of research, I found a used outboard parts dealer that sold me one WITH a non-doa warranty...$96 shipped to my door.

I should have the boat up and running this weekend.

Now all I need to find is the socket to get the flywheel off.

I bought my socket from one of the big box home improvement stores, along with an adapter to go from the socket's 1/2" drive to the 3/8" that my pnuematic impact driver uses. Taking the flywheel nut off is a snap with this setup.
