i am considering buying a new Sea Ark 1652 stick steer jon powered by a 60/40 Merc jet. I have taken it out for a test ride and just loved it HOWEVER the river was relatively smooth on the day I drove the boat. The rapids in the Snake River near my home are deep and the currents are squirrly. The boat did just fine with them. I had never driven a stick steer boat and found that putting it on the trailer to be somewhat challenging the first few times.

Has anyone out there owned one of these boats? Please give me your imput PRO & CON. For the type of fishing I like to do, this boat seems to be perfect.

I would get VERY familiar w it on slack water before running narrow rocky rapids.I have trouble landing my proped 1860 g3 w a steering wheel!!!It turns sharp on plane though.

Are you talking tiller steering or a stick steering requiring steering cables?

Re: Buying a stick steer jet jon

I owned a 14ft jon boat with a kawasaki 650sx jet ski engine on it. It was really fun! It did NOT have reverse which made things interesting at times. It too was stick steer with the throttle being a trigger on the stick (the stick was actually 1/2 of the Kawasaki handle bar). It would handle chop fairly well at high speeds because the front end raise up quite a bit. I had a trolling motor mounted up front for fishing.
