I was just more interested in a boat to own without spending too much money and enjoy a lake day with the wife.

If the motor and Trans is in good shape its a solid boat. They were fairly well made and will last, if taken care of.. Its rough riding to just cruise around on. Doesn't have much of a keel for smoothness

A single engine straight inboard is not the boat for a first timer who wants to enjoy the lake . Cons far outweigh the Pros in this case . Starting with launching , having to be extra careful of depth because of the running gear and how it was designed vs a I/O or Outboard. Then you have backing up to contend with , docking with any wind or current ,low freeboard with a flat bottom means anything over 1 -2 and you getting pounded to death and water is spraying in from the low sides as well. I could go on but instead suggest to keep looking. 19-21' bowrider type boat is what your after .
