I put the new coils back on motor this afternoon and was gonna see if I could get things back running, but man I forgot the fuse on the motor had busted (it was old, not blown) but I don't know the amp fuse that is. All I know is it's the shorter glass fuse. I need a factory book :(

You might get some help if you tell us what engine you have, Mikey.

If you are talking OMC/JOHN/EVIN you need 510884 and it is 20A.

DHP

Re: busted fuse

JB, yeah I get carried away and forget the important things. It's Evinrude, 85hp, 1977 V4. Another thing I was wondering....I've read on a few posts about not using the wingnuts on starter cables. Should I use the nylon locknuts or just plain old nuts? And can I get the same type fuse DHP's talking about at the auto parts store?

Stainless steel locknuts or s/s plain old nuts w/lockwashers.

Should be able to find fuse at auto parts, or maybe walmart.

Re: busted fuse

okay cause I got to go to Wally world tonight anyways. Hey one more thing, the last time I was there I was gonna get a couple new sparkplugs for my 8-horse. They have QL77's and L77's. What's the difference? Are the Q's resistor plugs?

Re: busted fuse

Asked a similar question a while back and here's the response I got from Joe Reeves: "Boat.... The L77JC4 plugs, gapped at .040 will be just fine on your engine, and that's OMC's recommendation.

The difference between a L77JC4 and a QL77JC4 is that the "Q" indicates a suppressor plug which helps to quiet ignition noise which might interfere with any electronic equipment you might be using such as depth sounders/fish finders, radar, ship to shore, whatever.

Feel safe to use either plug gapped at .040 ."
