looking at the 1980 crossflow 115 that I have here, I have never seen the shaft that goes through the carb housing so loose. that has to be a vacume leak. is there a bushing available or should I try to find another carb assembly for this 115

I haven't done it in a long time, and then only on little carbs, but:

Pull the shaft and ensure that it is not worn. If it is buy a new one.

If the shaft is okay and the carb body is worn, take the shaft to a machinist supply house and get bushings to fit it, then ream out the body to take the bushings. Reaming the body is critical . . . Keep the hole perfectly aligned.

Good luck. :)

be aware that the screws are "bucked" on the back side and you have to drill them or most likly they break off. if it has idle issues you can pack grease around the shft to see if its leaking. from there you can play with the air/fuel jetting to get around it. I dont think the seperate parts are availble from BRP. I have done what JB says but its a pain and time consuming. most the time we fix around them.

Also as Rodbolt pointed out, those screws have to be peened over from the back side after replacement. You don't want them vibrating out, and being sucked through the engine.

A set of used carbs shouldn't be very hard to find for that motor. Much easier than trying to bush the throttle shaft. Try ebay.

Re: bushings for throttle shaft

thanks for the replys guys, but there are so many carbs that fit this engine. I dont want to change the carbs to a set that fits, and they are from a smaller engine. and it runs worse. to a set that someone says there from a 140. these early c-flows 1984 and older are not prop rated. so I should just find a set of carbs to fit my friends 115 no matter if they came off a 88spl or 1984-140?
