Burping the engine

Last season my 1960 40hp never would get to full speed. When leaving the dock it would move at idle even with the throttle all the way full.
After a few minutes, I would shut it down, restart and it was OK. But never truly at full speed.
Any suggestions.

Thanks, Bill

Re: Burping the engine

very clogged up main jet on the carb. Buy a rebuild kid and rebuild it. Also before doing that, at idle pull the spark plug boots of one at a time and see if they both change the idle sound and speed of the motor if one does not that plug is not firing for some reason, either no spark or that cyl is getting flooded so it cant fire. But if both are firing you need to dissasemble and clean and rebuild the carbs.
