I took the carb apart on a 72 4 hp johnson seahorse ant the float looks like a burnt doenut.LOL. What is it cork ??? If so should I replace it when I do the carb kit or is this the way it is supposed to look . It did not seem to have absorbed any fuel .It looks original, would a new float for this model be the same thing or woud it be like a modern float ( what ever they are made of ) .

The float,if original will be cork.Just weight the float down in a small jar of gas for awhile and remove the weight,if the float pops right up it is probably ok to use yet.Check for excess wear in the pin holes also.

If its an old cork float you can dip it in "shalack" (sp) then let it dry and then dip it again and let it dry. Iv done it many times.
