Bunks versus rollers

I just purchased a 1996 16' Crestliner. It has a lot of dents from the trailer and sits very close to the wheel fenders - less than 1" on each side.

Can I put on rollers instead of the carpeted bunks or is this not good for aluminum hulls? Also I would like to put a roller at the front as well.

Thanks

Old Salt

I favor bunks plus keel rollers for tinnys, OS.

Re: Bunks versus rollers

I've got a roller trailer for my 26-year-old Crestliner. I have gotten to like it OK, and the only reasons I don't like it have little to do with the rollers. It's just too narrow and the boat sits too high on it. Makes trailing a nerve-wracking experience.

But, to answer your question, if the rollers support it all around with many points of contacts (to keep indvidual points of greater pressure less), I think it's fine. I do sort of wonder if you can make it work though by retrofitting a bunk trailer that way. I know it depends on your particular trailer, but I would worry if you don't have the weight distributed correctly on the rollers (like it sounds currently with your bunks).
