Re: Bunk Setup

wow! yep you got some weight there.

the bunks should extend past the transom and stuck out a little, not sure the exact amount but IMO it should be at least 1" and personally I wouldn't have it more then about 3" long but it really doesn't matter how long it is as long as it sticks out past the transom a little.

you can get away with it being flush but I feel better knowing its a little long so I know its fully supported

Re: Bunk Setup

I'd be more concerned about the clearance between the hull and the fender. It looks awfully close to making contact if you hit a bump.

Re: Bunk Setup

If it were my boat, I would raise the bunks 1" or more and definitely extend them past the edge of the transom like others have said. Have you weighed the boat to see if those tires are rated for that much weight? Obviously, that would mean two trips to a scale, one with the boat and one without it, but at least then you would know.

Re: Bunk Setup

Why? The bunk is fixed and the fender is fixed.

I think he was referring to the fender clearance to the boat if the boat was to shift or rock on the trailer.

we cant really see how close it is to contacting the fender to know how much clearance there is there.

Exactly... The bunk and fender is fixed, not worried about the bunk hitting the fender! Doesn't matter how heavy or large a boat is, it can still shift on the trailer. Gravity doesn't care.

But again, hard to tell exactly from the picture, there might be more room than it looks like.

Re: Bunk Setup

Can we get a picture of the stern to see bunk/transom issue?

Re: Bunk Setup

I don't have a stern photo. At for the boat hitting the fenders there is about 3 inches of clearence on each side when the boat sits properly on the trailer. There is an art to getting her loaded on the trailer properly. I have messed it up a few times and could bairly fit a finger tip between the boat and fender. I can get her on the trailer properly about 98% of the time. As for a photo of the rear I don't have one. I will have to look but I know now that the bunk should be at least even with the transom if not a few inches past. The trailer was bought with the boat. The tires are st225/75D 15 LRD 6H rated at 2,540Lbs each. The trailer is 7,400 Lbs. Boattest.com has her test weight at 7,065 with two people, 1/2 fuel and test gear what ever that is. Her dry weight is 6,480. So I think I am close but still have room.

Sounds fine to me. That's more clearance than mine has. Raising it up means more backing it in to get it on/off the trailer. Bet it is fun as it is.

Re: Bunk Setup

This boat does not power load well. I have to get he on to the bunks to the point where my weight leaving the boat won't make her float off of the trailer than crank her on all of the way. Thank god for bunk lube.

You should think about side guides. Not the silly poles on the back either. Guides that extend from the stern to forward of the fender. That's what I have on mine.

Re: Bunk Setup

I thought about them but I don't really have an issue loading the boat. Am I missing the point?

Re: Bunk Setup

Not side to side but rather sliding down the bunks. My wife has no interest in helping me load and unload so I have to put her on the trailer myself. If I don't put her on the bunks far enough before I hop out to hook her to the trailer and crank her on the rest of the way she will slide off the bunks.

Re: Bunk Setup

I just got back from the boat. It looks like the transom is extending about 1/2 inch past the end of the bunk. So the question now is do I play with the bunks or move the winch tower thing on the front forward.
