It is about time to change the carpeting on my trailer bunks.I happened to be in a marine store and spotted a kit consisting of teflon squares that you screw to the bunks. Has anyone had any experience with these??? could I just install them over the old carpet, without replacing it?.
Thanks

Yes you can.

Be careful. Those things make bunks act like rollers. Make sure your winch is locked while backing down the ramp.

I bought a pack of these, but they were foot long strips. No where on the package does it mention it, but deep inside the instructions it said "not for use with aluminum boats." I moved my bunks over a couple inches to avoid the rivets and installed it anyway, as this is a light 12' cartopper that only sees occasional use. They are working fine.

djohns is right. Those things are SLIPPERY. Be sure your boat is fastened to the trailer until you actually want it to come off. I like them over carpet to give a little cushioning for the hull, myself.

Re: Bunk Pads

I am going to replace the bunkers on my pontoon trailer, and no carpet. The carpet retains and traps water on the wooden bunkers, and causes premature rot, which will even happen to treated wood, if not allowed to dry after wetting. The last thing i need is hitting a bump, and having a bunker support bracket punch through one of my aluminum pontoon logs.
