Bunk board spray -- is it anything but silicone?

I've seen these sprays to make the bunk boards slick, but they are expensive. What's in them? Are they any different from any other silicone spray? What about using silicone grease on the bunks?

probably the same. silicone will wash off after a few dunks but it works. i'd stay away from the grease, that sounds like either a messy bottom or an accident waiting to happen.

Dollar store dish soap. Wet the bunks, squirt it on and see how well the boat glides on. I was able to wet with a 5gal bucket when I went to launch and WOOOSHH back in the drinh. 2002 25' Proline, 6000lb fully loaded
Dead Eye

Yeah, but I don't want to have to keep re-applying stuff. I'd like to put something on and have it work for a long time.

Swampnut, I fought my boat for five years or more putting on and off tralier then I changed bunk board carpet with bunk board carpet. I can now load and unload boat so easy I still cant belive it the other carpet was so old it would stick to the hull and hold it to the bunk boards.Just make sure everything on trailer is right and it will work great been there done that...........

I just spray w/ silicone every now & then & it works fine for me. I try to spray after launching so it will dry before I pull out. Just a quick spray does it.

have you looked at trailer glide slicks? little sections of plastic you secure to the tops of the bunks. i've heard they work great pretty good but can also leave marks on fiberglass. if you google trailer glide slicks you'll find some. i wish i had the link because i saw some a few days ago that slipped over the bunk rather than just sitting on top in the middle. it looked like they didn't raise the boat at all when on the trailer.

I can't decide on those. With an 8,000 pound cruiser, I'm not real keen on finding out if they can handle the weight or will damage the hull in the long run.

I've been thinking about it, but it's not really that hard to load it. I was hoping for less dunking during launch.

It's not a huge problem, but if I can make it better for $10, it's a no-brainer.

Get a couple cans of silicone spray and spray them down the next time you launch. When you load, make sure you hook the winch strap up before you take it out of gear. It will defenitely make it slide easier.

I use "Pam", the cooking spray, on my bunks. It's supposedly not harmful for human consumption so it should not be harmful to the fish and water.
