Re: building a trailer for pontoon
I built a trailer for my 20 ft. toon, or should I say "modified". I was on a very fixed budget and had an idea to use the frame of an RV trailer. The weight was right, it came with 3500 lb. tandem axles, electric brakes and 15" wheels. I switched to 14" to lower it a bit and fabricated the bunk brackets myself, although they can be purchased on line. Overall bunk height is only slightly higher than a pro built trailer. Prepare to have to move the axle set towards the rear for proper tongue weight or buy a unit longer than the boat and cut the excess off the back. For my 20" boat, I had a 26" bed. I only need it to transport the toon a very short distance but would not hesitate to take it anywhere. I paid $200 for the trailer and approximately $200 for the mods.
