I have a three year old trailer. Has about 1500 miles on it. Been in the water
about 20 times.
It is kept in an enclosed garage.
Today I checked the Buddy Bearings. One OK but one of them had a little
grease seeping out and a small bit of grease was accumulating in the bra.
Both Buddy Bearings pistons will rock back and forth and they are supposed too.

Is this a concern?

Joe

Re: BUDDY BEARING SEEPING

Mine seep all the time...it has nothing to do with any type of failure, in my opinion. Mostly has to do with the type of grease that's in it...most greases I've found have a tendency to separate a bit and the oil comes out, and I've found that many synthetics are sometimes just as "seepy" as mineral greases. It's all harmeless unless you let it go too long as it does causes the grease to slightly thicken. This is one of the biggest reasons Bearing Buddies are NOT a substitue for regular disassembly/inspection/repacking. The grease does break down over time, even if it manages to stay clean and dry. So if you're repacking every few years you're in good shape, just ignore the little bit of oil and wipe it up as needed. Also, if you haven't repacked your bearings yet on your 3 year old trailer that's been dunked 20 times....it's probably time.

Re: BUDDY BEARING SEEPING

preventive maintenance is much cheaper than a cure. if you dunking in salt water they should be inspected atleast once a year. if you hear a roar when towing it's time for a cure. the sound will travel the trailer thru the tongue & hitch and can be heard in the tow vehicle.
