Bubbling/boiling noise in the bilge

I purchased a used 06 Century 2200 Walkaround. I have run twice to the open ocean off Charleston for bottom fishing. While anchored or drifting I have noticed a bubbling noise from the inner hull/bilge. It literally sounds like bacon cooking and is loud enough to hear on the open ocean! It is not isolated to one area its everywhere. When I returned to the launch I check all the compartments again and it was gone I have had an ant problem from parking lot storage but I have fumigated and powder treated for them and have not seen ANY in a month. Any ideas/input would be greatly appreciated

few questions

Are you taking on water?
is the bilge pump running (bilge pump may be to high compared to float switch so pump is cavitating and not shutting off)?
Do you have any livewells/baitwells?

no leaks other than a fitting drip on washdown pump I have access to the bilge pump and float switch to rule them out.
and live wells are switched and shut off

Are you going to post this one again? Once is enough. Patience, please.

Re: Bubbling/boiling noise in the bilge

is this an inboard/outdrive? if so it *could* be water leaking from the engine onto the hot engine and this is giving you the sizzling noise as the water will sizzle and turn to steam when it contacts the hot engine. if its not an inboard engine then totally disregard that statement. but if its a gurgling noise then it could be water intrusiuon from a serious leak. but then you would notice large amounts of water in your bilge unless the pump is discharging the water overboard.

Is this sound while motor is running/idle or while off? Are you hearing it only inside the bilge area through an access hatch? Are you seeing any water in the bilge? Is the bilge pump hose connected? Check your through hull fittings that are close to the water line.

its an outboard...no water coming in.... notice after shutting down motor. I have manually shut electronics down as well as shut off at the battery switch. I called the dealer...stumped Talked to Century for 15 mins today stumped. Only thing I have not done is unhook batteries.

Sometimes you will get a guggling sound from trim tabs, transducers ect that are mounted to the stern of the boat, even from the motor sometimes. . But usually it is only in certain wave conditions. Its just air that gets under them and then is pressed out when the boat moves downward. Also self bailing drains can cause this noise easily. That's why I was asking if it is only heard inside the bilge.

Better check those batteries for electrolyte level. That sound could be them boiling. Do you have a voltmeter?

Do you have any speakers built into the hull or attached to the hull. I have heard off speakers picking up static or cross talk from other electrical items or where a speaker/buzzer is damaged.

I'm betting it doesn't do it in calm water. If not, it's slap and cavitation caused by the waves. The dead space between the hull and the liner hitting the hull amplifies the sound. A lot of manufacturers use a spray on sound damping material to minimize the affect.

Live well drain could be filling with water from the ocean side of the valve then gurgle back out. Mine will give me that type of gurgle sound if the waves and wind are just right. It sure doesn't sound like bacon frying though.

That would only occur if they were hooked up to a battery charger. OP stated he is floating with the engine off.

Are you sure this isn't just water lapping against the chines? The first few years I boated, I used to hear what sounded like a 'glug, glug, glug' sound while I was laying in the cabin trying to fall asleep at night while on anchor. It turned out to be simply water lapping against the reverse chines.

I say it was only the first few years. Actually I still hear it. However, now I simply ignore it rather than tearing the boat apart at 1am trying to find a non-existant leak.
