bruised heal w/ HO Venom boot

Is it normal to have a sore or bruised front foot when you first learn how to do a correct slalom turn or is my boot to tight? I was just recently told to get my weight up on the balls of my feet in the turn. I practiced this last week. The next day the heal of my front foot was sore/bruised. I have been free skiing for many years and have never had this problem. Now I am a rookie to learning to ski on a course.

My front boot is a HO Venom large w/ RTP. I wear size 11 shoes. I have not used this boot much because I was skiing most of the time on my old ski. Last year when I used this boot the next day the top of my foot was sore for 2-3 days. I realized the boot has no arch support and I have a high arch. I stretched the top of the boot out a little, so it would not have as much pressure on the top of my foot.

Has anyone had this problem before?

Technique change is not going to cause your bindings to fit differently. Your binding is too tight or small or just doesn't fit your foot.

Skibrain,
Thanks. I just wanted to make sure it was not because I was using different muscles in my foot that I don't use often. The bindings feel fine while I'm skiing. I don't want to buy new bindings becuase I already have a pair of Shocks and Venoms.

Does anyone have a pair of wiley?s bindings? I have heard a lot of good things about them.

I use them. My second pair, and this pair has been on three different skis.

I like them because they have kept the design the same, so parts are the same and it's relatively easy to rebuild them (I replaced the overlays last fall after about 6 years). And they come off when I fall. Knock on wood, no binding-realated injuries for this 50 year old - and we ski and fall A LOT. I have pretty flat feet. Don't know if someone with a high arch would love them.

Thanks again for the info on the bindings.

I talked to Wiley?s on Monday and they have the old gray Venom wrap in size XL. They said all of the wraps are really the same size, the difference is the wrap piece is cut off short on the small-large sizes. If I get the XL (longer) wrap it will take some of the pressure off of the top of my foot.

I have the HO Animals, but haven't experienced any discomfort or pain from aggressive slalom runs. You may need to find a larger set of bindings.
