I have a can of BRP Engine Tuner I’m getting ready to use on my main use motor , a 71 25hp Johnson. I read a lot of posts online about this product and similar products and not trying to open that can of worms again. I figure it can’t hurt to give it a try on the motor I use the most while fishing my local lakes. Hoping it will smooth out the idle, although it runs darn good as of now.
Anyway, has anyone used this product for similar motor(s)? I read on the can I can remove the prop and apply as specified on the can. It’s states to use cooling water.
My options are, use this stuff on my lake, or apply using my 55gal drum filled with water , and continually add freshwater from my hose to allow for “cooling” water.
Will using the bucket method yield the same results as running her on the lake etc? A little hesitant to try on the lake as other boaters may take notice of a large smoke cloud and oil slick:)
Thanks
Dave

just use as indicated. don't make this to complicated or worrisome

use the 55 gal drum if worried about pollution.... imho no need for extra cooling water

your may need to be freshen up with a good cleaning of all orifies and passages especially anything to do with the low speed circuit of the carb just under the dime size plug on top .

there is a very small side channel to the top of the carb....must be squeaky clean going up the top. blow everything with carb cleaner and air ..

Thanks. Carb is cleaned up good as of now. I’ll clean up again if needed after the application….
Should I replace plugs after? I read somewhere to do so after application. I guess I can always inspect the plugs after

I don't know what you have read, but don't try running it in a drum at fast throttle with the prop removed. It might blow apart at 10,000 RPM

Or even in neutral for that matter. Things can go wrong at high rpm’s with no load. Use common sense here. Wait until your on the lake to open er up.

BRP Engine Tuner, is one of the better Snake Oils for removing Carbon from behind the Rings, way better than that ***foam garbage. Just don't spray the stuff running in a Tank, and then waiting several hours to go the Lake to blow it out.

I think the fish will stay clear of the water near the boat, after you spray that stuff into the motor

Put the boat in the water. Run the engine at fast idle as you spray the entire can thru. Then take the boat out and run the crap out of it. When you get home, replace the spark plugs.

Maybe the culprit is your fuel tank. Make sure it's squeaky clean, and your fuel is fresh. Then proceed with whatever engine cleaning you think is appropriate (imo, disassemble and soak the carb, then clean every orifice -- in particular the idle passages on top.
