I have an old Browning silaflex fiberglass rod which I love using. I was drifting a slab on it while fiddling with another rod when I hear a splash. The lure had caught on a snag, but to my surpise the rod just floated there waiting for me to pick it up!

I had been marking small schools and slabbing all afternoon but only had one fish. About an hour and a half before sunset I decided to try a new technique I read about on the internet, called a "he11pet." It's a he11bender with hooks removed; a 3/4 oz. weight is attached to the front hook-hanger, and a four-foot leader tied to the back, with a pet spoon (I was using a #12 chrome with a red & white feather) at the end. Let out about 80 feet of line and troll it at around 2 mph. Runs about 16 to 18 ft deep.

I picked out an area about 50 yards long where fish were holding along a hump. Trolling parallel to the drop-off, I caught one or two fish on every pass! Had to leave 'em biting at sun-down when the running lights failed, but I finished the day with 20 fish, whites & hybrids 14 to 16 inches, 19 caught in the last 90 minutes!
