Looking at buying a Browning Marine Guide-15 aluminum boat. Does anyone know where to find the hin# on these boats? What is the approx. age of this boat?

Thanks, Tony

Re: Browning Marine Boat

Welcome aboard Tony.

A quick Google search turned up a couple of early 70's boats. Mostly likely, if they were made before '75, you may not have a HIN on 'em. If it has a capacity plate on it, you might find one there. Otherwise, the HIN would typically be on the stern.

Does the current owner's registration not have it listed on there?

Yes I did google them and came up with the same years. The capacity tag has nothing on it. The owner has no paper work for the boat. My hin# in on the outside of the transom. It appears that the boat has never been registered.

May wanna' move on. Depending on your state you may have a heckuva' time gettin' it legal. If you're not putting a motor on it, might not matter. But if'n you want a motor, might need another boat.

Are there numbers, outside the bow area? Those would be the reg numbers, most states, you can look them up, to find info. Other wise you could have problems getting paper in your name. I have read to many threads, of people completely restoring a boat, only to find out they can NOT get paper in there name, but they are Great Lawn Decor.

It doesn't look like there any numbers but it did belong to a fire department and you can see that. If he can't come up with any numbers I will walk away.

Thanks, Tony

Might check with the FD (if you're really tied to the boat) and see if they can come up with anything easily.

Otherwise, there's plenty of good ole tinnys out there.

Etracer68 that is why I am trying to find out where the hin# is or maybe they didn't have them on those boats. I was looking at a different one with no papers but after being on the phone several times with the person selling the boat and the pa boat commission I got a lesson on what is needed to get a boat registered. There are a lot of boats out there for some reason with no paper work.

HINs weren't required until 1972. There's a chance that if the boat is a '72, it never had one. If she was a rowboat for the FD and never had an outboard on it, then it likely didn't need to be a registered boat (assuming PA requirements are like the places I've lived).
