I can't find any of the photos of the fishing and salmon lures my brother makes, but this is his factory.

He is 100 miles south of Christchurch, which has been devestated by earthquakes.
His building suffered this damage. The fire wall above the gutter (roof) line ) was left leaning 8" "inward".

He knew it was finished so emptied the building quickly before engineers 'red-stickered it' (absolute no go, ever!).

He then went thru the process of having it demolished.
He says his problems were with the City Council. He wanted everything to move very quickly, as the longer he was out of production, the greater the possibility of him failing financially, and the Councils process couldn't keep pace. He has been able to negotiate with them and says they are trying really hard to help him - their systems just are not built to cope with industry needs, and the brother is the 1st one off the mark to do a complete rebuild after this disaster.

Then along came the new building.

Shop10.jpg

It is made of 4"x4" structural pine studs at 2' centres with 4"x2" noggins (dwangs - horrizontal).
He says there are so many studs and dwangs, it is hard to see 'through the building'.

It is further strengthened with structural ply over the whole thing, including roof.

Shop13.jpg

All fixings (nails and screws) are to engineers standards to meet earthquake code here.

Shed is covered with corrogated iron as exterior cladding. Not a recognised structural material but with the type of screws and the way they screw it, it really helps.

Story to the front window. The last brother is in the glazing industry and has scored a big contract for a big public 'facility', with a lot of specialised glass in it. One of his workers cut one sheet 'wrong', so guess where it is. Tells me you won't go thru it with a .....

Anyway he is slowly getting use to the idea.
He is 62 and did not want to go thru this expense but ...... he is a bit like me and our other 2 brothers - we never want to retire from our businesses. We just want some time 'off'
He says he now has a fantastically warm modern factory.
A brand new Plating Room (silver, black nickle etc); Paint Room; Powder Coating Room; Tumbling Room and others, overhead gantry etc.
He no longer is cramped for space, everything is 'right', easily heated, plenty of light etc.
He has decided the internal fittings have to be 'the best'.

I will post more pics when it is completed.
Sorry for being long winded.

Cheers

Wow what a good looking building. I think if you do a history search on iboats you posted some picks of your brothers store and tackle. I think it was about a year ago. It had photos of his rods and hooks. Best of luck to him.

When the rebuilding is done it looks like it will be better than ever! Nice looking lures that he produces, also. I certainly wish him the best as he rebuilds!
