Broken Wire from Switch Box Question

Thanks for allowing me to join in. I am new dealing with outboards.
I picked up a 1983, 2 stroke, 40 HP Merc, Made in Canada, electric start, ser. # 7060419.
I was told that it ran well, Not.
After I removed the cowling I saw that one of the 2 wires ( the white) connected to the 3rd terminal was not attached anywhere.
I searched many wiring diagrams with no luck. Any help would be appreciated.

I don't have a diagram for that 40 but a 50 hp of the same year shows white wire going to the trigger.

Yeah it's not going to run right without that wire. I had all 3 of those wires messed up on my motor, the casings were cracked and they wires were corroded, motor ran like POOP until I fixed them.
