Broken weld ... how to find it?

I own a welded aluminum boat which has developed a leak. What's the best way to find a leak? Should I strip out the seats and floor and fill the boat with water to see where the water comes out, or should I take it to the water and see where the water comes in?<br /><br />any advice will be appreciated.

I work for U.S. Fish and Wildlife, and I recently had to do such a check. I had better luck with putting water in, on dry pavement, and seeing where it came out. Good Luck
