I have a 2002 Yamaha 4 stroke F100 TLRA that has a broken tilt/trim rod. This is the stainless rod that goes into the cylinder on the tilt/trim assembly. Is it possible to weld this rod back together? The rod is broken toward the upper portion of it, not down toward the cylinder. Would the heat from the welding hurt the internal components of the cylinder? Also if this is not an option can the rod be replaced without having to replace the entire cylinder assembly?

Re: Broken tilt/trim rod

Any photos would be helpful. I would expect at the very least, you'd have to disconnect/disassemble that rod to re-weld it. Is it the center/tilt rod and did it break up where it attaches to the motor? Seems like welding in that area would create a fire hazard. If you're going to have to disassemble to weld, then maybe better to replace the rod with a new one? That's a rare thing to break! Good Luck!
