Motor was dropped and tiller mount is broken off. Can it be replaced without a total tear down? Or do I take to an aluminum welder and let him have a go at it?

:welcome: to iBoats . . .

Both . . . it will need a teardown, and then take it to a welder, or just buy a used one on eBay.

Take off the lower unit (2 bolts)
Remove the engine from the 'saddle' (you will need/want one of those 'C' clip tools - 4 places)
Take the handle off the swivel/saddle assembly (3 bolts)
Go to welder

I have the c clips out but nothing’s moving. I thought they would tap straight out. Didn’t realize I need to remove lower.

It takes a bit of work to dis-assemble the saddle from the main part of the engine, usually because the aluminum/rubber mounts are corroded a bit. PB Blaster and some heat on the 'ring of the saddle assembly may loosen them.

Thanks Ted I’m away a few days but will hit it again with pblaster. Also will insert a long screw to help pull it. Now I know how it comes apart it looks doable

Another question. I did remove the 4 rubber mounts but still can’t remove saddle. Saddle seems to hang up on the lower reverse lockout rod(proper terminology?) I undid the plastic clip and the ball is free but rod won’t come out. Is there a trick to this?
Also hanging up on the shift rod at the top. Does it just slide off when the lockout rod is finally off? Or is that what i should be doing first? Thanks for any help. Did find the pump impeller needs replacing.

Yes lower is off. Good thing as most of the impeller was rotted. But how to remove engine from saddle? Do I need to remove lower lock-out rod or shift rod at the top?
Or both? Any tips on that? What a puzzle.
