Ayuh,..... Ya can just leave it be,.... it won't hurt a thing,....

Or,... ya might try installin' a skeg-guard,....

Or,... you could pull the lower unit, 'n have another welded back on at a prop shop,....

One other option is if it isn't causing any issues now being broken, smooth it down and just run it like that. If you decide to weld another one on, the lower unit has to come off and be disassembled and cleaned extremely well for the welder to reweld a new section on. Yes, it can be done, but is a lot of work to disassemble everything, clean it amazingly clean and then smooth it off and refinish after welding is finished... JMHO!

o.k., thanks. Its my friends boat and he broke about 3" off the end putting the boat in the water and did not even notice it until he came in. IT seemed to run fine on the lake. He took it to a boat mechanic and he did not want to take the chance on wielding it. He said the heat from wielding it can ruin some to components inside.

I think that he is going to let it be

Thanks again

kennfu, the only thing I would suggest is being very careful IF the broke off section now allows straight direct access to the spinning prop. Because now everything can hit the prop from the bottom were as before the skag helped block such possibilities...
