The shift lever is broken on my Nissan 6hp 4-stroke (NSF6BS). Does anyone have any idea of a replacement part and whether or not this is something that the dealer should fix or could I do it myself?

Thanks for the fast reply. I'll call the dealer next week. As long as the post is out there can anyone tell me whether or not the 2006 Nissan 6hp is a solid outboard or if they've experienced any problems with theirs?

The Tohatsu 4/5/6 4-stroke is solid. We have a fleet of them running as sail auxiliaries. The boats are used for rental and sail training, so they get really abused. Rose-budded-props, torn starter ropes, the usual. Yet they hold up well.

Re: Broken Shift Lever - Nissan 6hp

Skipped the dealer replacement of the lever. Cleared back portions of the two broken sections, drilled & pinned the two back together and completed the fix with JB Weld. It's solid now and it only cost $4.00 to repair. If it gives me problems, I'll replace it at the end of the season. After the lever set up, I put it into a tank for a first run and was really impressed with how the motor ran. A little more vibration than I want, but it's expected with a single cylinder. The thrust was very impressive and it should be a great replacement for the 1963 Johnson SeaHorse 5.5hp that we were using. If only the ice would melt from the lakes to get the boat out!
