Last Sunday we got to the lake early, unloaded the boat...no problems to speak of, parked the truck, went back to the boat and DW and pulled the trolling motor down...OOOPS. One blade broke off prop with a POP!....this is an older one that is actually a transom type "modified" to go on the bow by PO...and I had it set up too high and well, there you have it. OK, we have the 5.5 kicker motor, started it up, backed up and went 100 feet, stalled out.....restarted, stalled again and would not start again.....drifting right into a father son fishing duo on the bank....and wife is giving me an earfull. Had to start the 55HP up and get us the HE** out of there and parked in the middle of the lake, hoping no one saw me. (LAKE HAS 10HP LIMIT)..eventually found the electric troller still pulled with 1-1/4 blades so we fished and moved around for a few hours til it got hot outside. Not a total loss but still learning boating. Keep spare prop, be SURE motors are ready, be careful and don't break anything! The list of things to learn is growing....
