While pulling my motor mounts from my boat last night,I managed to break off one of the bolts in the stringer.How can I get this out ?The bolts are like 4 inches long and pretty big around.Will an easy out even work on this? I dont seem to have very good luck with east outs.I have one broken off in a small bolt in my outdrive right now.@#$%&!!Does anyone know if bayliner puts something on these bolts that go into the stringer?Is there something I can let soak in befor attempting to remove this with an easy-out? Any help?Thanks.

Re: Broken motor mount bolt help

  • I would use some Pblaster or Aerokroil & let it soak in a litttle......
  • Use the biggest possible ez out & drill as deep as you can......;)

Is this stuff for metal to metal ?I think it's just frozen to fiberglass unless they put epoxy or something in there when they were installed.

Sorry for the "clone".I didn't think it went through the 1st time.

Lubricant is lubricant.....
It can't hurt to try it, IMHO......
I would try to extract the bolt, if I could....
Boom's solution is an option if extraction fails......;)

My Guess is;

Somebody Already had a Rot Issue,+ Filled the Hole with Epoxy,+ Stuffed the bolt In, while the Epoxy was still Wet........
And,......
That's a Problem...........

Thanks guys.I'll try extraction first.Hopefully I wont have to go the other route.I just got a new transom assembly and motor and am ready to get on with the install.Got a good deal on the transom assembly online.Brand new in the box Alpha w/shift cable,trim cylinders,trim hoses,all fasteners $1,450.Beats the heck out of my local dealer.BEST he could do,$2,995.

The other three bolts also seemed to be pretty stuborn as well.It didn't seem like I was useing any more force to remove this one.I'm actually surprised it broke with just a 1/2" drive ratchet(no cheater). It's not like it's in a spot where I could stand on the wrench or something like that.Just arm strength,and no,I'm not a hulk.
