A few weeks ago a fisherman was wadding in chest high water retreiving lures, bobbers, and other stuff. While he was busy collecting his loot, he lost his footing and went under the water. All the old fishing lines that had broken from snags entraped him til he drowned. This happened at Charles Mill Lake (part of the MWCD). What a tragedy and a way to go out. I think I will pass up the chances on a few bobbers and lures from now on. There is a reason why their there, THE SNAG MONSTER! and he will protect them! :D

Re: Broken Lines

I don't think he did Sloopy. The lines were entangled around his legs. The rescue team said he didn't have a chance. On those lines were hooks that had embedded into his flesh which kept him from getting to the surface. I don't think even a real big knife would have helped.

Re: Broken Lines

I salvage tackle but I do it during low water. You can save a lot of money by doing this and you never know what you will find that was 5' under during the summer. BTW I stay dry to because I can walk on dry land rather than wade. I have done it on the lake from the boat as well but that is fairly safe.

Re: Broken Lines

Most of the hung up tackle roud here is either on a realy big oyster rock (or a bunch of them) or on some power lines....I have no desire to go near either one.

You just have to be careful.

I don't think I would want saltwater soaked tackle anyway....Saltwater has a tendency to do bad things to metal.

As shoa Fin preists we must all give a moments thought to our lost monk and his family.... they are the ones who are paying the price.

This is all the more reason to be aware that safety should always be on our mind while we are near the water no matter what we are doing. (this comming from the 2002 swan dive king....right).

Keep it safe gents and good gung fu.

Derwood.
