Broken Cable ?

Hey Guys,
I belive that my shift cable broke today. I shifted in to reverse and then it would not go back in to foward. I could shift in to reverse and push the lever foward and throttle it up to get back to the ramp in reverse. Everything looks okay up by the engine. Maybe I am mistaken but it looks like a broken cable to the drive. Anybody got any other ideas?

--------------------
Thanks very much,
AH

Re: Broken Cable ?

Yes,
the linkage moves if you are speaking of the linkage by the carb. Everything seems okay there from what I can see. It is still in reverse and the throttle will go all the way to WOT towards foward. It looks to me like it normaly pushes it in to reverse and pulls it in to foward. I am thinking that if that cable is broken going to the outdrive that it can not pull back to foward. Thanks for your help!

Re: Broken Cable ?

Mine is an OMC Cobra "86". I pulled the out drive and it looks as if the arm that move the bell crank jumped out of the black plastic piece at the end of the cable. the cable still seems to work but it is stiff so I plan to replace it. Can some one tell me if the black plastic piece on the drive end of the cable comes with the cable or not. I am not sure why the arm that moves the bell crank jumped out of the black plastic end of the cable but maybe it is worn out. my out drive does shift okay by hand if I spin the prop.
