What's the best way to remove this broken bolt without damaging the threads?

Thanks for the assistance!

Re: Broken Bolt

if that doesn't work then you can drill it out and re-tap it...hopefully the easy-out and heat may work. Good Luck!

Soaking it for a few days with pb blaster or the like never hurts either.

Re: Broken Bolt

I agree with cpubud. Additionally i would spray on some Pb blaster on it and let it soak.

An alternative method is to weld a nut to the end of it by laying the nut against the bolt and welding inside the nut. That essentially installs a new head on the bolt and you can use a normal impact gun to remove it. The weld has trhe benefit of removing rush from the bolt by means of electrolysis, which always helps.

63 years and that's the first time I've heard about the weld. Fantastic, I wouldn't give you a high success rate with hole and ez out. Remember if you do that the drilled hole had better be dead center. A slip to the side and you'll destroy the thread. Only problem I could see with the welded nut would be too much heat too fast.

Re: Broken Bolt

If you can't weld, and, for example, the bolt is 1/4 inch, then reinstall the cover with all the other bolts. Tap in a 5/16 roll pin to act as a guide and drill the bolt out with a 3/16 bit. Minimal damage to the threads because the roll pin keeps the drill bit centered. Buy a PREMIUM cobalt steel drill bit (not the cheap cobalt brand)
