So, yesterday was my last day on the water until next summer. Family and I are flying back to Japan, so I decided to have a guy's trip on the lake, no wives, no kids, just some wakeboarding, skiing, and a bit of partying. Loaded up 5 of my buddies and took off for the lake.
What a great day; didn't hear, "I'm cold, I'm hot, I'm tired, etc., etc." Got in a few runs on the board and skiis and then decided to head to the back of the lake to anchor off and swim a bit to cool down.
We tied up to two other boats and my friends broke out the beer (I only had 1 Guinness all day, then stayed put for the next 7 hours. I'm the captain after all, and was probably the most sober person on the lake, which makes this all the more dumb). Well, it turns out that Sunday is Party Day on this particular lake, and before we knew it, we had 21 boats tied together (maybe a few more, I stopped counting after a while). Booze, bikinis, music; it was a great time (a special thanks to the guy that had the boat with a built in stripper pole). This was my first real water party.
Anyway, as I said before, I usually go out boating with my wife, kids, 3 & 6 years old, and friends with kids, nieces, nephews, etc. I have one main rule on my boat (aside from lifejackets and other obvious safety concerns), 19' bow rider w/ I/O, and that is if the kids (or adults) are going to jump into the water, either do it off the bow or off the side of the stern, NEVER over the outdrive. In fact, I preach it so much that my wife makes fun of me.
So, getting back to yesterday, the boat next to me decides to leave, so we begin the untying of lines, freeing the anchor, moving floatables etc., so I jump into the water....... knee first right into my outdrive. The most sober person on the lake, my boat, my rules, and I do the dumb deed. Took me 15 minutes before I could walk again, and I am still walking with a limp, and probably will for a few more days. At least I didn't hit the prop. When will I learn to start listening to myself?
