I broke my accelerator pump arm on the side of my carb!

So I have a Mercruiser 2 barrel carb that came off my 1984 140 motor. I just rebuilt the carb and was using pliers on the pump arm to adjust the length as described in my rebuild kit to get the carb to a basic bench tune. I was using two pliers on one end and one in the middle to give it a little adjustment and I broke the end that has the groove for the clip washer. Anyways...... I called many boat places in town and online and cant find a replacement. Many sites say they have it but then I call and they say they don't have it in stock. Others say it is no longer available. Anybody have a suggestion on what to do get a new one of these or how to make a replacement? Trying to get it fixed for fishing opener and now I'm desperate.

I need the part labeled #8 in the photo. I believe it it part# 3302-810920.....

Check with a local carb rebuilder, Auto mech shop, marine shop....Standard part for auto or marine same-o same-o.
shops should have junk carbs for parts.

Using the part number, try calling Erickson Marine Inc in Hastings MN @ 651-437-6159.

Any stock car tracks in your area? Most lower classes use 2 bbl carbs, any racer will have a pile of spare parts.

Re: Broke my accelerator pump arm

Wow :) All good feedback.....I think. Thank you all for chiming in with my issue. that's why I love Forums!

To answer a few questions.....

* First off, why did I adjust this in the first place? Because the Carb kit and repair book both told me to adjust it 29mm from top of throat of carb to top of arm with lower butterfly's closed and it was a few mm off. Maybe I should have just left it alone. This was my first re-build. You don't learn unless you try. I tend to make things worse before they get better

* I will give Ericksons Marine a call. Never heard of them but will take your suggestion and see what they have on hand.

* Should have bought an outboard? This boat is great to work on. Everyone raves that this was one of the best motors and lower units Merc built. Other posts on this site say it's built like a tank. Yes, they are old, and might need a few adjustments here and there, but with proper care, you can expect many hours of fun. I have only had this boat since last year and just had to get the carb rebuilt to help with a little mid-throttle hesitation.

* Brace or solder it? Might do that if i cant find or make a replacement. Tiny piece and will be tough but somebody with the right skills could probably do it.

I will call a few more local carb shops to see what I can find. I see some junker carbs on eBay for $50. Figured maybe worth getting one for spare parts. Not really wanting to spend $50 for a $2.00 part, but sometimes that is how it goes when you work on your own stuff...... Well for me anyways. thanks again and if anybody has a suggestion on where else to get one or how to go about making my own, let me know....

DUDE!!!!! Erickson says that they have it. Nice people and helpful as well! I'm heading down there tonight after work. Hope I get there by 5:30 before they close. Cathy in parts is putting it on hold for me. VERY NICE LADY! Thanks for the recommendation. I hope it's the right part. Will find out shortly.

So They had the part. Picked it up and also orders a gasket I needed all for $7.00. She is going to drop the gasket in the mail for me so I don't have to drive the extra hour to get it. Very helpful place. Thanks again for the tip!

Re: Broke my accelerator pump arm

Just a dumb question. Wouldn't it be easier to adjust the pump rod than the arm?

It's one of those things, that if it "wasn't in print". He would never have broken it. That rod is awful stiff, what makes it part of a carb rebuild?
