If you are trying to drain the manifold, why not just pull the lower hose off instead?

He says it's broken. Some gentle heat (propane torch), PB Blaster soaking and an easy out might get it, since it already would have a nice hole in the center to start the easy out. Removing the exhaust manifold will give you much better access to work on it. Depending on what engine you have it can be a quick job, but you've not provided more details.

Yeah, the drain **** is broken, you can still just remove the hose and let the water drain out through the hose elbow. As long as the drain **** doesn't leak it shouldn't be a problem when the hose is re-installed.

If you insist on fixing the drain ****, you are going to have to pull the manifold.

I'm confused, why do you need to get the drain out so badly? The only thing that the drain **** is for is draining the manifold which I assume is what you are doing. If the drain is stuck, just disconnect the lower hose from the elbow under the manifold and all the water will drain out, then you won't have to do anything with the drain that is stuck.

I am making sense to anyone else on here or did I miss something?

Re: broke exhaust manifold drain plug

The exhaust manifold blue plastic drain plug broke when I was trying to unscrew it to drain the manifold for winterizing. So the threaded portion of the plug remains in the drain plug hole. With nothing to grab onto to remove it.I need to get it out or I cant put a new one in.I put a hole through it trying to remove the threads so it will need to be removed.

Ok I understand your issue, there's a hole drilled now so you have no choice anymore. Since it's just plastic, drilling and re-tapping, ie. using a tap to clean the rest of the plastic junk out would be what I try first.

Square taper easy out. Get it to turn just a little and it will drop right out. It's not held in by much with its head broken off.

If it's a plastic plug, I would try nipping at it with wire cutters or something similar. You can also try a hammer and a flat head screw driver or small punch or chisel to poke it out. Just be sure to place it between the metal and the plug and drive it towards the center of the hole so you don't damage the threads on the manifold.

If you can't fix it with a hammer, it must be an electrical problem.

ok now I'm screwed.Tried drilling, it didn't work, may have damaged threads.Used a mirror can see its still up there. Its so hard to access. So thoughts on melting it?Is that safe?I would make sure area is well vented.

Ayuh,.... Pull the hose, 'n unscrew the Whole elbow fittin',....

I believe it's also plastic,...

Either way, the blue plastic plug screws into an Adapter of some sort, Pull It,...

The manifold will be 1/4" pipe, or 3/4" pipe, if the 90? elbow,...
