Broadband was finally available at my house here in the country. The installer had to call his supervisor as they can only run the line 300 feet from the road. I told the guy, well it's over 300 feet.

Good news. They installed it anyway. Cable broadband and wow, can the computer download and load sites quick. Goodbye dial-up.

Re: Broadband installed

I started online in late 1995 in high school, with AOL. Signing on meant telling the computer to try 25 consecutive times to get on, which almost never worked, the line was always busy, and when you did get on you were rewarded with extremely slow download speeds with frequent disconnects.

I went broadband in 2000 and refuse to go back!

Re: Broadband installed

In '99 I went Dual Modem - works like an ISDN, but 2 modems with 2 phone lines, win98se has it built in.
(I worked at an ISP so I got the service for free, just had to pay for the lines)
...Then about a year later, went with ISDN. Uses the same dual modem account on the ISP side, but $120 a month for the line, gave me 128k, and would drop to 64k if you had to use the phone.

Then a few years later got dsl

Re: Broadband installed

I live in a little town that doesn't have the same phone company as the nearby cities. So even if I have to call work it is a long distance call. I have broadband cable for internet and VoIP for telephone. No more phone lines connected to my house.
