I just found this 1969 motor for sale for $30 so couldn't pass it up. Now the fun begins.
Have a look, and feel free to offer any advice on trying to A) get it running and B) restoring the appearance

I think it ran in 2004. No service records but it did come with owner's manual and parts list. I was cleaning it up some today, awaiting info from the US parts guy in pacific NW somewhere. These things are barebones simple. I think if it has gas, spark (that's my trouble) and water it will run. I need the coil yet.

I never cared for them, but for $30 what the heck. There used to be a dealer/distributer somehere in Maryland. Southern Maryland I think. I bet there is a website somewhere for enthusiasts.

Wonderful engines.Metal impeller.Spark plug should be a champion D16 if it's a forty plus engine-serial number will begin with FP if it is. Serial number is stamped into a flat on the crankcase. The only engine I've ever had that uses marine grease in the lower unit instead of oil-and no oil seals.Designed to be maintained with 3 tools- a hammer, an adjustable spanner and a screwdriver. There's thousands of them, still in daily use over here.

As for restoring the appearance, I don't think they ever looked new :D

They run on 10:1 premix by the way-and when you use it make sure you take at least 2 spare drive springs and split pins with you-as soon as you touch down on the bottom they break.

GOOD TIP. Having never run one, its not something one would think about when being used to running other outboards. I bet I havnt changed 3 shear pins in 35 years, although 95% of my boating is done in a sandy-bottom lake with few rocks.
