Hi All,

I am new to iBoats and will be new to boating once I pick up the boat my brother is giving me in a couple of weeks. I have another post on identifying the boat and will not be able to do that until I pick it up.

My best guess is that it is an 87' Sea Ray Seville.

My question is, what steps should I take to prepare the boat for the water again. As far as I know it has been in storage for about 5 years and I am not sure if it was running when it went into storage the last time. I know it needs a couple of batteries but that is all I know at this point.

I found this list in another post and figured it would be a good start.

- Engine oil and Filter
- Drive Gear Oil
- Drive Water Pump
- Change Water Sep Filter (check for water)
- Plugs
- Rotor
- Distributer Cap
- Timing
- Idle Mixture
- Idle Speed
- Choke Operation
- Clean Flame Arrester
- Compression Test
- Vacuum Test

Any Other suggestions?

Re: Bring a boat out of long term storage

Hopefully the engine was fogged before storage. I see your in Tx. Cant imagine you have freeze issues- Im a Minnesota Boy- either way, pull the plugs and squirt an oz or 2 of oil into each cylinder. Some people like to put something with some penetrating qualities like Marvel Mystery Oil or such. DO THIS BEFORE YOU CRANK IT FOR THE 1ST TIME.. You could put years worth of wear and tear on the rings/cylinders in 20 seconds if the cylinders are bone dry or worse have any rust in them. It might start right up, but you could scuff the cyl walls and end up with an oil burner[blowby] and lost compression. So put oil in cylinders, give it a little time to soak in an THEN bump the engine over with the starter, with spark plugs out, to get it all loostened up b4 starting it. 5 year old gas will cause its own set of probs-get rid of it. and be prepared to have your varnished up carb rebuilt. Good Luck with your new toy

Clean out the dirt dauber nests.. Bet you there are a few on it.. Seems like those devils plug up all the important stuff.. It will freeze down here enough to ruin a block with raw water in it.. I live in the southern part and still seen it happen..
