a friend of mine is looking to buy one of those B/S 5 hp boat motors are the any good? he just has a one man bass boat and is looking for a little more than the trolling motor to push it

Never had a problem with mine. Buy a 2004 or newer model to avoid an overspeed limiter problem the older ones had. New on the 2005 models, the hood is made out of one piece of plastic instead of two and it's alot stronger. They are loud though and they vibrate pretty bad too. I usually use mine on my canoe, but I did put it on a jack plate once on my boat and it vibrated so badly, I couldn't use it above clutch speed. It shook the whole boat, BAD! Perfect for the canoe though.
