Posting this topic is not meant to be contraversail, i am looking for a litte more insight into the process. Personally i have broken in new car's for the past 15 years (demo's every 6 months) and have found that if you do run them hard for the first 1500 to 3000 miles they do run stronger and get better gas economy. I should also state after the intial 1500 -3000 miles they start burning oil and this has been reconsized as the seating process, during this time i have been very gentle with the motor and after it burns a quart or so it stops this process.

Now here is the link http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm

Is anyone in the know.....do they use the same honing process for marine engine's as they do car engines? I can see no reason why they would use a different process but then again this is a marine engine and i should add i just finished breaking in a new boat and followed the mfg guidelines, there were just to many variables to take the chance aka different cams, the heat the engine runs at etc etc etc........

mercruisers are suspossed to be seated from the factory, they reccomend that you NOT run the engine under 1500 rpm for the first 10 hours any more than necessary, and not at any one speed for more than 4=5 minutes. full throttle is not a problem for short bursts, after the engine is at operating temp.

That would be a misnomer if they use the same honing process as a conventional chev motor, are you indicating that there is indeed an different mfg process for marine engine's?
