I'm picking up my new Sea Pro this Saturday, and want to take it fishing the following weekend. I was wondering if anyone might have some suggestions/comments/does-and-don'ts on how best to break in the motor. This will be my first new outboard. It is a Saltwater Series, OX66 Fuel injected model, on a Sea Pro SV2100 with all the bells and whistles. Any comments welcome.

The dealer will probably know and tell you the best way to break in your motor!
Good Luck!

John

As the dealer will surely have to deal with any warranty issues etc, I'm sure he will give me the ins and outs of breaking in the motor, I'm really just looking for some insight from people more familiar/experienced with this engine. Thanks for the reply and the good luck wish!

1. Pre-mix fuel during the entire break-in period. Mix gas/oil 50:1. This is in addition to the injection system.

2. Break-in time is about 10 hours.

3. Initially, run the engine at trolling speeds for the first 10 minutes.

4. Plane the boat, then immediately reduce throttle to about 3,000 rpm. Run at this setting for about 50 minutes*.

5. Plane the boat, then and reduce throttle to 4,000 rpm. Run for about 1 hr*.

* Run at full throttle approximately 1 out of every 10 minutes.

6. For next 8 hours avoid continuous full throttle for more than five continuous minutes

7. After the first 10 hours use straight gasoline for normal operation of the oil injection system.

:)

Can't add anything to Forktails advice except to emphasize the importance of not running at same speed for an extended period of time until thoroughly broken in.
