I refuse to pay west marie prices and half the time they don't have any. What weight gear lube should I use for the outdrive?

Re: Bravo3 Gear Lube

A Bravo III takes a little over 3 quarts of Merc High Performance gear lube. Get 4 and have some for topping off. Some folks have had good luck with Amsoil products. Have you looked online? Quicksilver High Performance Gear Lube

Yeah I waited too long to get some and I took off Friday to do the deed. I will see if west marine has some if not I will use lube from the parts store just wondering what weight I should get if I can't find the merc stuff by then.

WM should have plenty in stock. If I were to use any auto lubes it would be the full syn Valvoline 75/140. But you will actually pay less for the merc stuff I'll bet.

I always do mine in the early Spring. IDK why, just habit... along with the engine oil, filters and safety inspection.

All the Walmart stores in my area carry the Merc/Quicksilver quart sizes of HPGO and for $11.96 a quart......

As usual with drives with a cone clutch like the Bravo 3, stay away from gear lubes that are LS "Limited Slip". Besides that, any 75W90 synthetic will work.

75W/90 will indeed work, but the 75W/140 provides better protection under load. It's used for HD axle apps. and extreme towing.

I use the Quicksilver High Performance brand for my Bravo XR. Sadly $11 is probably the cheapest you'll find anywhere, it's expensive stuff. My local store carries it for $14 apiece so I usually bite the bullet and give them my business, if you have to pay for shipping it evens out.

You should not change your drive lube in the "Spring". If it leaked last season, you will leave water in the drive all winter. The results in Spring could very bad........
